Grouping Peers

When importing data, you may want to group peer records together. You can create groups manually after importing the records or during the import process.

For example, if you import the data shown in the following table below,

You can group the records by title, which would appear as shown in the first figure, rather than the second, which show how they would appear without being grouped by peers.

To group records by peer:

1        Click the File tab and select Import Data to start the Import Wizard, and click Next until you reach the Verify Hierarchy dialog box.

2        Click the Group button to open the Group dialog box.

3        Select the Group Peers checkbox.

4        Select a field from the Group using drop-down list, such as the Function field as shown in the example above.

5        Select the Only group boxes with no subordinates checkbox to limit the grouping of peer boxes to the bottom level of your organizational chart. If you select this option, you can also set the Group Boxes with no peers checkbox to group all boxes without peers.

6        Optionally, you can use the Criteria tab to restrict grouping to include only boxes that meet specific criteria, such as Job Title = Analyst.

7        Click OK to close the Group dialog box.
